PROJECTS

The ability to manage golf course improvement projects is an important role of the superintendent. The golf course is an ever-changing environment and requires constant review and adjustment to maintain proper conditions.

I have had the opportunity to be associated with several renovations, and many smaller in-house projects as well. My wide range of experience in course construction gives me the confidence required to lead a club through any project they wish to complete successfully.

One of my more interesting experiences was in relation to preparation for the 2017 US Women’s Open, as it was decided to make the 17th hole on the Old Course more challenging. In working with Tom Fazio II and the new design he came up with, we renovated the 17th hole moving the green 100 yards further back while increasing the size of the adjacent pond, added bunkers and brought the fairway up to the new green. We also used the sod from the old green to sod the new one in trying to make the new green as consistent as the other greens on the course.
